Torsion spring
Category: Spring types
A helical spring that stores energy by twisting and applies an angular torque through two legs.
As one leg rotates about the spring axis, the wire is loaded in bending and the spring reacts with a torque proportional to the angle of twist. It is common in hinges, clothespins, pedals and rotating mechanisms.
Design parameters include the leg length, the angle between the legs in the free position and the angular rate (torque per degree).
